About the 2020 RunGo Race

The 2020 RunGo Race has transitioned to a virtual race, and we’re excited to offer a unique race-like experience that you can participate in solo.

What is a virtual race?

Instead of everyone showing up at start line, runners in a virtual race do their race and earn their accomplishment anywhere. Runners register, choose a distance, and run. Some may share their times online, and some races will mail medals, race bibs, t-shirts, and race packets to the runners.

But we wanted to do things a bit differently, and offer something a lot more memorable.

About the RunGo Virtual Race

We've partnered with the running app RunGo to put together a unique virtual race experience.

If you are able to run the race course, the app will guide you along the route, preventing you from getting lost and motivating you with voice messages. You’ll hear stories about the race, its course, landmarks you’re passing, and its partners and sponsors.

If you are unable to run the course, or if the race advises you so, you can run the course virtually, using RunGo’s virtual modes: outdoors from anywhere in the world, or indoors on a treadmill or even running on the spot. You’ll still enjoy the voice messages and visualize yourself in the race.

How to participate

📲 Get the free RunGo app for iPhone, Android, or Apple Watch.

👉 Watch this 2 minute video

⏰ Do a dry run before your race effort to familiarize yourself with starting and ending the timer

🏃‍♀️ If you run in Indoor Mode on a treadmill, make sure your iPhone or Apple Watch with the route is on you: arm, hand, pocket, etc.

💪 Have fun and enjoy the voice messages!

For more information, visit the virtual race guide.

Note: some races may offer 1 route, while others may offer more. Running one of these routes is not mandatory, as you may submit any run. The leaderboard may also compensate for differences in distance, to equate a 12.3 mile half marathon with a 13.5 mile half marathon, etc.

Virtual Course Maps

We suggest running these race-experience routes, but you’re welcome to run any route or submit your activity from any source here. Your place on the leaderboard will get boosted for completing one or more recommended routes.

Route #1: This is simply our favourite route in downtown Vancouver. We’d love to share with you the views from the seawall and the remoteness of these Stanley Park trails.

Route #2: This route is the race experience, even when you run alone! You’ll hear voice prompts like:

  • “Startline at West Santa Clara Street and San Pedro Square. Get your shamrock on! Head west, follow the sidewalks and be safe if running without closed roads.”

  • “The oldest public space in California, Plaza de Cesar Chavez on your right”

  • “Come back and race next year! If you do, you'll get a free Guinness on the house after the race! O'Flaherty's Irish Pub on your right”

  • “End. Great job! Remember to share your run, on social, from the RunGo app, with #SJSHAMROCKRUN”
